The Garland Sports Hall of Fame
celebrates its inductions with a
reception for all current and
past GSHF inductees and guests
in the foyer of the Garland
Independent School District's
Events Center, followed
immediately by a barbeque dinner
in the auditorium to honor that
year's inductees.
For over ten years the master of
ceremonies for the induction
banquet has been Alan Stone, a
local radio and television
sports personality. Alan gives
the night an air of informality,
yet professionalism as he
punctuates the control of the
presentations with his quick wit
and light hearted humor. Alan
not only looks forward to taking
part in the annual event, but
expresses added interest as he
knows of many of the inductees
accomplishments having covered
sports in the area for so many
years.
The two outstanding high school
senior athletes selected by the
Hall of Fame Board for the Gale
Field Award are recognized as
are previous inductees and
chosen honor teams. The
highlight of the induction
ceremonies is an audio-visual
presentation that summarizes the
life and sports accomplishments
of each of the inductees and the
honor teams. As accomplishments
are highlighted, each of the
inductees make their way to the
stage for their acceptance
speech. Several inductions have
been made posthumously, but most
inductees are available to
accept their plaques and speak
to their accomplishments.
Souvenir programs are passed out
at the door and framed
biographies of the inductees are
displayed in the foyer for all
to see. The induction ceremonies
are concluded prior to 10 pm
allowing for time for additional
congratulations and visitations. |
