~ The Buster Leavell Award ~
|
As it is with many volunteer
organizations, the success of
the organization rests with the
dedication and leadership of its
members. Since the idea of the
Garland Sports Hall of Fame
first emerged from the mind of
Gale Fields to the formation of
the non-profit organization in
1986, support for it grew within
the Garland community, fueled by
the enthusiasm of the
Board of
Governors and the Extended Board
members. Today, the
Garland Sports Hall of Fame has
become a tradition in the
history of the
City of
Garland, Texas. |
 |
In honor of devoted service to
the Garland Sports Hall of Fame
and its goals, The Buster
Leavell Award was created in
1991. This award was first
presented to the outgoing
Founding Chairman, Hayden Buster
Leavell, in appreciation for his
leadership during the formative
years, from 1986 to 1991. |
 |
Then in 1995, The Buster Leavell
Award was presented to outgoing
Chairman, Steve Finigan, for his
leadership as Chairman of the
Garland Sports Hall of Fame from
1991 to 1995. It was under Steve
Finigan's leadership that the
Honor Teams concept was
formulated by the Board of
Governors and later instituted
into the Induction Banquet in
1992. |
