Tomi Garrison |
Tomi (TOMMY) Garrison was named the female recipient of the Gale Fields Award for her efforts on the playing field as well as in the classroom.
Garrison has been Garland’s softball pitching ace for four years and left her mark by leading the Lady Owls to back-to-back state titles and several state records.
As a freshman, Garrison led the Lady Owls to the state title game for the first time in the school’s history, although the team lost a 15-inning heartbreaker to Keller.
Then, as a sophomore, Garrison led the Lady Owls back to the state tournament. Her pitching led Garland to the school’s first state title in girls’ softball in the 5-A title game with Keller.
Her success continued as a junior when she set school records for the most strikeouts and innings pitched in a single season, while leading Garland to its second straight state championship.
Garrison led the Lady Owls to back-to-back state titles, but perhaps her greatest accomplishment came as a senior when she pitched Garland to a 5-A record, fourth straight tournament.
She finished her high school career with 97 wins as a starter and became the only pitcher in 5-A history to pitch in three consecutive title games. Her success on the field was rewarded with an athletic scholarship to Sam Houston State University.
Garrison graduated with a 3 point 8-2 G-P-A, as well as many other academic awards.
