Cindy Gambill

Cindy Greer Gambill was a two-time All-American as winner of the all-around gymnastics championship of the NAIA national meet while competing for Tarleton State University. As a sophomore at North Garland High School, she was an all-state selection in vault and all-around, and as a junior she received all-state honors for all-around and floor exercise, and high school All-America recognition for the latter. Her team won the state championship both years. As a senior in 1980, she won All-America honors in all-around, floor exercise, balance beam, and vault. In club competition, Cindy in 1980 placed sixth in floor exercise and eighth in all-around to become the first Garland woman gymnast to place at the Western Senior Nationals competition. As an University of Texas at Austin gymnast in all-around, she took first at the Texas AIAW and third at the Southwest AIAW meets and was named the Most Valuable Gymnast on her team and also for the Southwest AIAW. As a Texas sophomore she took first in all-around at the Southwest AIAW regional meet the following year and again was named the Most Valuable Gymnast for the Southwest AIAW. As a junior at Tarleton, she won individual NAIA championships in vault, uneven bars, floor exercise, and all-around, and was second in balance beam. As a senior in 1984, Cindy captured first in uneven bars and balance beam, second in floor exercise, and third in vault, and won her second NAIA all-around championship. In the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association national championships, she took first in all four individual events and the all-around title. Cindy, who now owns and directs Flippers Gymnastics in Garland, was inducted into the Tarleton State Hall of Fame in 1989.
