Bill Hill

Bill Hill won a Southwest Conference track championship in 1964 as a senior member of the Southern Methodist University 440-yard relay team, which won their event with a time of 40.1 seconds. Bill placed third with a time of 9.6 seconds in the individual 100-yard dash and also took third with a 21.3 clocking in the conference meet 220. The SMU sprint relay team won the Kansas Relays with a 40.6, and the Mustang 880-yard relay team, with Bill running a leg, won the Kansas Relays with 1:23.4 and the Drake Relays with a 1:24 time. Bill completed his freshman year and three varsity seasons at SMU in both the 100 and 220 and as a member of Mustang print relay, sprint medley relay, and mile relay teams. As a senior at Garland High School in 1960, Bill won the District 7-AAAA championship in the 100 in 9.7 seconds and the 220 in 20.8 - both records. At the regional meet, he won the 220 with a record-tying time of 20.5 and was third in the 100. In the State meet, Bill was clocked in the same time as a Big Spring sprinter, but his opponent was awarded first and Bill was named runner-up in the photo finish. Bill was a multi-sport athlete for the Owls, serving as a captain of the football, baseball, and track teams. He was a second-team All-District halfback for an 8-2 district runner-up grid team and had been outstanding in baseball for many years - having been the youngest member of the 1953 Garland Little League All-Star playoff team.
