Russell Ingram

Russell Ingram been selected for induction into the Garland Sports Hall of Fame in recognition of his outstanding accomplishments at South Garland High School and Texas Tech University. Ingram played football at South Garland High School where as a junior he started both ways at tackle and was named to the Dallas All-Metro team as a defensive tackle. In 1968, his senior year at South Garland, he was a starter both ways at tight end and offensive and defensive tackle. He was named All-District at offensive tackle. Also during his senior year, while on the track team, he won district in both the shot put and the discus and went on to win the regional meet in discus in order to qualify for the state meet. Ingram was named an All Southwest Conference selection both his junior and senior years at Texas Tech, and was named honorable mention All-American his senior year. At Tech he was one of the freshman team captains. Although, freshmen were not eligible for varsity play at that time. He started every game at offensive guard. During his sophomore season at Tech he started at offensive tackle and played in the Sun Bowl. Then, during his junior year he started at center. Again, as a senior he started at center and served as team co-captain. He earned three varsity letters in football at Texas Tech. He started at offensive tackle in all games as a sophomore in 1970 when Texas Tech went 8-3 and played in the Sun Bowl. He moved to center for his junior year and again started all games until a serious knee injury sidelined him for the final two games that year. As a senior he started games at center as the Red Raiders again finished 8-3 and played in the Sun Bowl. He was a team captain as a senior, and also was named as an All-Southwest Conference center in 1972. He played in two all¬star games after his senior season, the Senior Bowl, and the Coaches All-American Game. In 1973, after his senior year at Tech, he was drafted in the 9th round by the Atlanta Falcons. RUSSELL INGRAM and his wife, Kerri, have 4 children: 2 sons and 2 daughters.
